Application of airless spray technology.

Airless spraying differs from air spraying in that it pressurizes the coating to 14.71~17.16 Mpa (from an initial pressure of 0.14~0.69 Mpa) and sprays it through a fine nozzle (φ ranging from 0.17~0.90 mm). When the high-pressure coating exits the nozzle and reaches the atmosphere, the sharp drop in pressure causes the solvent in the coating to expand rapidly and atomize, spraying the coating at high speed onto the substrate. Since the coating is atomized without the use of compressed air, this method is referred to as airless spraying. Except for topcoating on weld seams, edges, and small area repairs, heavy-duty corrosion-resistant coatings must be compatible with the airless spraying method.

1. Advantages of Airless Spraying

High spraying efficiency, suitable for modern production pnes.

Compatible with high sopd content and solvent-free coatings, providing thick films in one pass, saving energy and reducing consumption.

With proper spraying pressure, the coating can be sprayed with minimal or no dilution, benefiting environmental protection.

Due to high spraying pressure, the coating has strong penetration, no air or water-oil mixture, resulting in good coating quapty.

2. Disadvantages of Airless Spraying

The spray width and coating flow rate cannot be adjusted during operation; nozzle replacement is required to make adjustments.

Not suitable for thin-layer decorative coatings.

3. Airless Spraying Pressure and Coating Relationship

The pressure in airless spraying affects the flow rate of the coating, film thickness, and adhesion, and is one of the most important process parameters. The technical datasheet provided by coating manufacturers should correctly specify this parameter. Different heavy-duty corrosion-resistant coatings require different spraying pressures.

Even with similar heavy-duty corrosion-resistant coatings, the required spraying pressures differ due to variations in resin and zinc powder composition and content from different manufacturers. The formula for calculating spraying pressure is: Spraying Pressure = Inlet Pressure of Airless Sprayer × Compression Ratio.
