How important are railway guardrails, exactly?

Railway guardrails that are exposed outdoors for long periods must withstand wind, sun, rain, snow, and ice, making them prone to rusting. Corrosion of railway guardrails not only damages their appearance but also gradually weakens their structural strength. If not addressed in time, guardrails may break or deform, posing a serious threat to railway traffic safety while also increasing maintenance costs and difficulty in the long run.

Since most railway guardrail anti-corrosion work involves refurbishment, surface treatment by sandblasting is not feasible under site conditions, which places extremely high demands on the choice of protective coatings.

Fortunately, the responsible party turned to MengNeng. Our solution uses a graphene-based low-surface primer. This primer has excellent adhesion, allowing it to bond tightly even to guardrail surfaces that have not undergone sandblasting. At the same time, it offers strong resistance to chemical corrosion, protecting against a variety of contaminants and inhibiting rust at its source. Once the primer has dried, a polyurethane topcoat is applied. The polyurethane coating effectively resists fading and chalking caused by UV radiation, and it withstands cycles of high and low temperatures as well as rainfall, preventing cracking of the coating. Together, the two layers extend the service life of the railway guardrail to more than 15 years, fully meeting the owner’s requirement for long-term corrosion protection.
